Addressing the participants of this event, Jeremic said that this has become even more obvious since interim authorities in Pristina decided to declare the province’s independence unilaterally on February 17, and some countries unfortunately decided to recognise that independence.
He said that he is convinced that a true European path that would lead to a solution can be found, with the respect of Kosovo Albanians’ legitimate right to self-administration and simultaneous preservation of a democratic, whole and free Serbia, fully integrated into Europe and actively cooperating with the world.
The Minister stressed that Serbia will continue to act responsibly and will take appropriate measures to meet its international obligations, including cooperation with the Hague tribunal, and will intensify regional cooperation.
We have an obligation to build relations with Europe based on national pride and integrity, said Jeremic and recalled that all countries in the region have felt the positive and visible effects of the European project.
Representatives of the European Commission will also take part at the SEECP ministerial meeting, as well as Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe Erhard Busek. Issues to be discussed are the situation in South East Europe, regional cooperation and progress in the countries in the region in the process of European integration.
SEECP was founded in 1996, and its members are Albania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania, Turkey, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Moldova and Montenegro. Bulgaria will now hand over the presidency of SEECP to Moldova.
