International student competition in technology titled Microsoft Imagine Cup, at which Serbian representatives for the upcoming world final to be held on July 3–8 in Paris will be chosen, began today at the Serbian Government Palace.
Academic programme manager at Microsoft Serbia Zoran Subic said that the final was held in one category only – software design – whereas representatives in the remaining categories will be chosen through the Internet and will go directly to Paris.
Subic specified that four teams are taking part in the final in this category, namely one team from Belgrade, two from Kragujevac and one from Novi Sad. Each team will have 20 minutes for presentation and the jury will have 10 minutes to ask questions.
This year’s Microsoft Imagine Cup will deal with environmental protection and the way a sustainable environment can be created using technology. Students from various faculties have been taking part in this competition since 2004.
The Microsoft Imagine Cup is the largest international technology competition for students. It is expected that nearly 150,000 students from all over the world will take part in the competition this year.
The aims of the event are in accordance with the goals of the Serbian Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as its efforts to improve the position of young people in Serbia.
The competition will serve to promote positive values, technology and know-how among students, encourage young people to acquire new skills and expertise, and facilitate exchange of experience.
Minister of Youth and Sports Snezana Samardzic-Markovic will address the students during the competition.
