The GRECO submitted a draft report on recommendations, the implementation of which are necessary for the fight against corruption, and will be examined at the GRECO’s plenary session in June in Strasbourg.
President of the commission, Minister of Justice Dusan Petrovic, presented the commission members with recommendations and pointed out the obligations by the state authorities to fight corruption so that the Republic of Serbia could get a positive assessment by the CoE on the fight against corruption.
Petrovic said that it is necessary that Serbia by October 2008 fulfils at least 25 recommendations and thus show readiness to fight corruption, which is a precondition for Serbia's inclusion on the White Schengen List and further EU integration.
The Minister said that a number of recommendations have already been fulfilled while the rest will be done by adopting the law on the Anti-corruption agency, which can be done in the first two months of a new government’s mandate.
The commission established the biggest problems facing Serbia in implementation of GRECO’s recommendations and set obligations of individual state authorities in the fight against corruption.
