RSD 16 million for Serbian language media in Kosovo

Serbian Assistant Minister of Culture Dragan Janjic and Director of the Office of Media Relations Milivoje Mihajlovic said today that the Serbian government has allocated RSD 16 million for media in the Serbian language in Kosovo.

Janjic and Mihajlovic said at a meeting held at the Media Centre in Caglavica with media representatives that media in the Serbian language in Kosovo needs help from the state.

Janjic said that it is extremely important to continue financial support through projects during the upcoming years as well, and to increase funds for this purpose.

He recalled that last year the Culture Ministry distributed RSD 8 million to media outlets in Kosovo, and added that this year an additional RSD 8 million will be set aside.

The competition for co-financing media in the province was announced two days ago, and is open until June, said Janjic and invited all media outlets to take part in the competition.

Mihajlovic said that the media need help above all because they are working under difficult conditions, in order to clearly and objectively present the truth about the province.

According to him, the most important is that Serbia assists their work and development so that they can be better and more objective day in day out. The battle for Kosovo-Metohija, first of all through the media, is yet to come and will last for decades, Mihajlovic said and added that we must enter that battle with strong, developed and competitive media.
