Spasojevic,
who is on a visit to Lisbon, said in a statement to the Tanjug news agency, that the Portuguese government sent an unambiguous message that the situation concerning Kosovo-Metohija must in no way be linked, or used as a condition for Serbia’s future full EU membership.
Spasojevic also met with representatives of the ministries of defence and foreign affairs, and with officials of the army and Portuguese parliament. They said that Serbia must not be blackmailed into recognising Kosovo’s independence so that it can become a full EU member.
The State Secretary recalled that Portugal did not recognise the illegal declaration of independence by Kosovo, and added that Portugal has maintained a very constructive stance on the unilateral declaration of independence by the province.
Spasojevic expressed gratitude to Portuguese officials for their country’s presence in KFOR in Kosovo-Metohija.
He said that an agreement on cooperation in defence between Serbia and Portugal will be signed by the end of the year by the defence ministers of the two countries.
According to Spasojevic, agreement was reached on specific areas of cooperation between the defence ministries of Portugal and Serbia, such as joint military exercises, preparations for peace operations, military medicine and military education and training.
Today, Spasojevic delivered a lecture at the Lisbon National Defence Institute, wrapping up his visit to Portugal.
