Serbian Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić met today in Bratislava, at the beginning of his official visit to the Slovak Republic, with the country’s Prime Minister Robert Fico.
At the meeting, which was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Slovakia Robert Kaliňák, it was assessed that Serbia and Slovakia are connected by very good and friendly relations, based on mutual respect and understanding, while readiness was expressed for the further strengthening of bilateral cooperation in all segments of common interest.
Gašić stressed that Serbia is committed to military neutrality, but will also continue to develop and improve relations with other countries and military-political alliances, in accordance with its own interests, with the aim of strengthening global, regional and national security.
The Minister expressed gratitude for the strong support Slovakia provides to Serbia on its path towards European integration, as well as for Serbia’s territorial integrity.
He recalled that the issue of the security of all citizens in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija, regardless of national or religious affiliation, pursuant to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Military-Technical Agreement, falls exclusively within the competence of KFOR, noting that Serbia appreciates Slovakia’s contribution to that mission.
