New security system in Zabela prison presented

Representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Directorate for Enforcement of Penalties, the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) and the European Commission presented today a new security system at Zabela penitentiary-reform centre near Pozarevac.

The reason for the visit is an EU donation, which is being implemented by EAR in cooperation with the Serbian Ministry of Justice, owing to which Zabela has been equipped with a state-of-the-art CCTV system.
It consists of a burglar-proof door with X-ray passage, security cameras and control room with plasma screens and sophisticated computer equipment, which enables complete CCTV coverage of the building.
The project is worth €1.5 million and it is supposed to improve the security level of the prison, which currently holds 1,274 convicts.
The penitentiary-reform centre for women received today a donation consisting of equipment for training women to work while serving their sentence. The equipment includes machines for sewing and ironing, machines for baking and modelling clay, complete equipment for baking and computer equipment for training female prisoners.
