Spasojevic, who is on a two-day visit to Romania, told the Tanjug news agency after meeting with Romanian Defence Minister Teodor Melescanu, that Romania opposes the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo-Metohija.
He pointed out that the Romanian official supported Serbia's speedier European integration.
Romania strongly supports Serbia’s European integration and it was jointly concluded that the best way for Serbia to safeguard its territorial integrity and sovereignty is to join the EU, said Spasojevic.
According to Spasojevic, during today’s talks Melescanu explicitly stated that giving up Kosovo should not and will not be a condition for Serbia’s EU membership.
Spasojevic said that detailed consultations on the current political and security situation in the region were held, and it was concluded that Serbia and Romania share joint values and views on the challenges faced by the two countries.
Later today, Spasojevic will meet with Chairman of the Romanian Parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee Stefan Glavan.
A bilateral military cooperation plan for 2008 will be signed tomorrow for several joint activities including participation in military exercises in 2009.
Tomorrow, Spasojevic is also scheduled to meet with Romanian Chief of Defence Gheorghe Marin.
