Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Aleksandar Popovic stated that the Protocol on cooperation, which the Serbian energy power industry EPS and Russian electricity company Inter RAO are to sign today, is another step towards strengthening contacts and further integrating EPS into the global network of electricity producers.
In a statement to RTV B92, Popovic stressed that this is not a binding document, nor one that would in any way give an advantage to Inter RAO or EPS when it comes to future business deals in any country.
The Protocol merely states the readiness of the two companies to cooperate, build new capacities and share information, as well as to appear together in third markets, explained Popovic.
He noted that the Protocol opens up business opportunities for some portions of the Serbian economy related with the electric energy sector primarily in the Commonwealth of Independent States, but also ensures the safer and cheaper supply of electric energy to the Serbian market during winter.
The Minister noted that the Protocol does not contain any mention of the privatisation of EPS and added that this company will not be privatised any time soon.
