Samardzic said that Serbia expected things to go that way, and added that the scenario of those circles in the international community that want to carry out the project of an independent Kosovo is not going as planned.
The UN Security Council does not accept the policy of some countries that recognised Kosovo, and Serbia is conducting a policy against independence which gives results in international relations, the minister underlined.
He did not want to comment on the statement of UNMIM spokesman Aleksandar Ivanko that the holding of local elections in the Serbian communities in the southern province is contrary to UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
Samardzic said he will comment on that statement once he receives an official notification in order to avoid misunderstandings.
He said that Serbia is preparing to hold parliamentary and local elections in the southern province as well, and the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija has contacted UNMIK because organising elections falls under its jurisdiction.
We are waiting for UNMIK’s response, but are going ahead with preparations for the complicated procedure of holding elections, said Samardzic.
Speaking about the current position of UNMIK, the Minister said that the issue of the status and financing of UNMIK will be a big challenge for the Security Council.
If this mission fails ignominiously, and if a pseudo mission – the EU mission, replaces it illegally, that would discredit all UN Missions, said Samardzic.
Talking about the problem of paying salaries to loyal Serbian citizens in Kosovo-Metohija who left interim local government institutions in Kosovo, Samardzic said that a solution will be found during the next few days.
