After the last night’s meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York, Jeremic underlined that the investigation will not be carried out by UNMIK, but directly from the UN headquarters, which is of extreme importance for its integrity.
The UN is also willing to start dialogue on the proposal which Belgrade made to this organisation on institutionalisation of relations between Serbia and UNMIK after the unilateral proclamation of independence by Kosovo.
The Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs said that Ban Ki-moon expressed concern over the holding of elections in Kosovo-Metohija on May 11.
There is a full readiness to cooperate on carrying out parliamentary elections in Kosovo on May 11, however, there are reservations concerning local elections.
I insisted that local elections should also be held everywhere where Serbs who want to take part in them live, so we agreed to try to reconcile differences in a dialogue which they are ready to start, Jeremic explained.
According to him, during the talks with Ki-moon, it was agreed once more that UN Security Council Resolution 1244 should continue to be fully implemented and that the UNMIK must continue fulfilling its mandate as envisaged under this resolution.
Jeremic also met with President of the UN General Assembly Srdjan Kerim, as part of Serbia’s preparations to ask this body to seek the opinion of the International Court of Justice on the unilateral proclamation of independence by Kosovo.
