Spasojevic, who is leading a delegation of the Defence Ministry at the conference in Bucharest, which is being held on the margins of the NATO summit, said in a statement to the news agency Tanjug that it was agreed at the meeting that KFOR will continue to be status-neutral.
He said that during his stay in Bucharest he also met with Slovak Foreign Minister Jan Kubis, who confirmed once again that the Slovak Republic will not recognise the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo-Metohija.
Agreement was also reached that UNMIK will remain in Kosovo-Metohija because this is in accordance with Resolution 1244, and that these questions must still be resolved within the UN, said Spasojevic.
The State Secretary pointed to the importance of the Serbian delegation’s presence at the largest NATO summit ever, considering the fact that it is very important that Serbia is present at forums where decisions are taken on important global issues.
Serbia is able to get first hand information on what decisions are being made. Our voice is heard at the table where our destiny is decided, thus we can defend our stance and have a say in the decisions which will be made and concern our country, explained Spasojevic.
He said that a number of bilateral meetings will be held, and the meeting with Chairman of the Russian Duma Foreign Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev is particularly important.
According to Spasojevic, the NATO summit in Bucharest is being attended by a large number of heads of state including US President George Bush, Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as numerous leaders from Europe and around the world.
There was also discussion regarding whether Macedonia will be invited to join NATO or not, as well as the question of Ukraine and Georgia signing the NATO Membership Action Plan, said Spasojevic.
Organisers of the Bucharest Conference are the Romanian Foreign Ministry, Chatham House and the German Marshall Fund.
