Serbian Minister of Finance Mirko Cvetkovic stated that the government decided that employees in Kosovo institutions, who quit their jobs after the unilateral proclamation of independence, will be hired in Serbian state organs.
Appearing on RTV B92, Cvetkovic recalled that the government adopted the conclusion according to which employees in Kosovo institutions were guaranteed new jobs if they quit their old ones after the unilateral proclamation of independence.
He explained that this means that those who work in customs under UNMIK’s supervision will now be hired by the Serbian customs service, and those employed in courts in Kosovo-Metohija will be given jobs in appropriate state organs.
The Minister said he assumes that funds will be found and added that under a decision by the previous government a number of people in Kosovo are entitled to a “double salary”, one of which is regular while the other is a kind of "Kosovo supplement".
Cvetkovic said that letters were sent to 113 beneficiaries giving them until the end of March to submit information, and by yesterday 30-40 answers had arrived.
He noted that the budget for Serb and other non-Albanian population in Kosovo amounting to nearly €500,000 should be enough if the needed reallocation is carried out.
