Brazil’s restraint from acknowledging Kosovo of huge importance

Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic talked last night in Brasilia with Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Brazilian President Marco Aurelio Garcia.

In a statement to the FoNet news agency, Jeremic said he will ask Brazilian officials to confirm that they will refrain from recognising the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo and added that it is very important that Brazil, as the key regional player, affirms its stance on Kosovo-Metohija, which has been close to Serbia’s.
He stressed it is of huge importance that South American countries do not start to recognise Kosovo en-masse and recalled that they are under great pressure by very powerful countries which are lobbying for recognition.
Jeremic will today meet with Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim, as well as with presidents of foreign policy committees of both the upper and lower houses of Brazilian parliament.
