Following a meeting with EU foreign ministers, Jeremic said that his counterparts affirmed commitment to Serbia’s EU road, but warned that Serbia is in a difficult and challenging situation.
Jeremic said that the Kosovo issue is a threat to regional peace and stability, which is why the international community must find a joint solution.
He noted that a democratic answer must be found for the challenges that have arisen, adding that this is the only way to reach a legitimate solution on the future of Serbia as a whole and the region.
The Serbian Foreign Minister told a press conference that Belgrade will continue with its forceful offensive without any compromise on two separate fronts – the defence of its integrity and sovereignty and persistence on EU integration.
According to Jeremic, Serbia demands practical ways for ensuring the safety of Kosovo Serbs in the southern Serbian province.
Authorities in Belgrade will keep fighting with all diplomatic means against the illegally proclaimed Kosovo independence and for preservation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, said Jeremic.
He also noted that it would be best if the EU promptly reaches agreement on abolishing visas for Serbian citizens and announced that with that aim, the European Commission will adopt the sequence of measures for Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Jeremic underlined that the Serbian authorities are doing their best to fully cooperate with the Hague Tribunal and help arrest those indicted that are still at large.
Speaking about the invitation sent to Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci to attend today’s meeting of EU foreign ministers, Jeremic said that when it comes to the participation of representatives of Kosovo-Metohija interim self-governing institutions in international gatherings, the important thing is to keep everything in accordance with the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1244, and within an UNMIK delegation, as well as to clearly state in advance in which capacity these representatives will be taking part in the meeting in question.
