Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic discussed Kosovo-Metohija and Serbia’s EU integration today with Chair of the European Parliament Foreign Policy Committee Jacek Saryusz-Wolski.
Djelic voiced belief that once Serbia gets a democratic and pro-European government in the second half of 2008, it will acquire EU candidate status, as well as that visas for its citizens will be abolished.
He stressed that Serbia will never recognise the independence of Kosovo-Metohija and that the unilateral declaration of the province’s independence is a precedent which undermines regional stability.
Saryusz-Wolski reiterated that the European Parliament is not under obligation to speak about Kosovo’s independence because the decision on that issue is made by individual member states.
