Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic said following a meeting with Czech Deputy Prime Minister Alexandr Vondra that he made it clear that Serbia will never recognise the independence of its southern province, and added that he expects that the Czech Republic will make a decision in accordance with its friendly relations with Serbs.

Vondra said that the Czech government will make a decision regarding Kosovo “with responsibility, wisdom, and a realistic approach, bearing in mind the traditional friendship with the Serbian nation,” and voiced hope that regardless of the decision taken, relations between Serbia and the Czech Republic will remain friendly.
Djelic said that he hopes that by the end of the year Serbia will acquire candidate status for EU membership and join the European bloc during the next few years, earlier than was expected.
Vondra said that the European Union should now act towards Serbia much more intensively and carefully than until now.
Vondra and Djelic talked about economic cooperation as well and agreed to intensify it in three fields – car industry, energy sector and transport.
