Jeremic,
who is on a two-day visit to Vietnam, said that Serbia is ready to negotiate on Kosovo under the patronage of the UN and thanked Vietnam for supporting Serbia’s efforts to preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity in a peaceful and diplomatic way.
Vietnam is a non-permanent UN Security Council member and opposes the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo-Metohija, Jeremic said and added that this is one of the most influential countries in Southeast Asia as well as of the Non-Aligned Movement and that it has pledged for a compromised solution for Kosovo.
I got assurances today that Vietnam will remain firmly devoted to the principles of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and that it will continue to strongly support negotiations on the status of the Serbian southern province, said Jeremic.
He noted that the position of Hanoi is officially confirmed in a letter from Vietnamese President Nguyen Van Thieu to Serbian President Boris Tadic, that was handed over to him today by Gia Kheim.
Jeremic said that he also spoke with his Viatnemese counterpart on bilateral cooperation and economy.
With a population of 85 million, Vietnam has one of the fastest growing economies not only in Southeast Asia, but also in the whole world, Jeremic said.
There are many opportunities for investing in Vietnam, which is also showing an interest in increasing trade with Serbia, Jeremic said and added that a student exchange was also among the topics today.
