Djelic who celebrated the World Water Day at Ada Ciganlija with representatives of Belgrade authorities and students of the Rudjer Boskovic secondary school said to the press that water is gold in the 21st century.
Bearing in mind the changes in climate, very soon a large number of countries will not have enough drinking water. Serbia has great potential in that respect, but we must take care of our resources. Almost 90% of wastewater in Serbia is not purified at all, said Djelic.
Djelic, his advisors in charge of sustainable development – Srdja Popovic and Zoran Cvijanovic, as well as Acting Mayor of Belgrade Zoran Alimpic stocked fish in the lake on Ada Ciganlija as part of the campaign “Water for Future”.
Popovic said that from this year fishing will be allowed in the lake exclusively according to the principle of catch and release.

The campaign is being organised on the occasion of the World Water Day, which has been observed throughout the world since 1993 under the auspices of the UN, and this year the theme is water purification.
As part of the campaign today the banks of the River Sava were cleaned and water quality in the lake Ada Ciganlija was tested.
UN member countries are invited to mark the World Water Day on a national level by organising activities to raise public awareness about the preservation of water resources and the importance of providing adequate amounts of water which is healthy and safe for drinking.
