Sutanovac congratulated soldiers who took oath in the Vojvoda Zivojin Misic army unit in Valjevo and said that for the Serbian Army human life is the most valuable and that loss of human lives is something which we should never permit.
The Minister said that Serbian Army officers fulfill the aims of the Serbian government, and these are maximum efforts to maintain peace in the part of our country where stability is not in jeopardy, as well as in the ground safety zone where it might be threatened.
Speaking to the press later, Sutanovac said that despite recent unrest in Kosovo-Metohija, the security situation in Serbia and the region is stable.
He said that everything was done so that the post March 17 situation in Kosovo is stabilised and added that the Defence Ministry was in contact with KFOR, and demanded that international forces should not use force in the province so that lives are not put at risk.
Sutanovac expressed regret over the lives lost in Kosovo, and said that he is convinced that relations with the countries which have recognised Kosovo will not influence Serbia’s military cooperation with these countries.
According to Sutanovac, an export shipment of arms and military equipment to Iraq worth $235 million is expected to begin soon, according to a contract signed between the Serbian arms industry and the Iraqi Defence Ministry.
