Samardzic-Markovic said that she believes that a great injustice has been done to our swimmer for having stated his opinion, that Kosovo is a part of Serbia, and underlined that Cavic did not call for violence or violation of international conventions.
She said that most countries, just like the UN and the International Olympic Committee, did not recognise Kosovo, and added that the Serbian Ministry of Youth and Sports will send a harsh protest to LEN. It will also pay the €7,000 fine given to the Serbian Swimming Association.
The Minister of Youth and Sports will talk today with the president of the International Swimming Organisation and try to convince him that the suspension should be lifted.
I repeat once more that the Ministry of Youth and Sports has always advocated the non-politicisation of sport and that this is one more example of how political intrusion in sport produces unfavourable results, Samardzic-Markovic concluded.
