During talks with a delegation of students from the Faculty of Forestry and representatives from company Forma Ideale, Djelic said that the timber industry employs 15,000 people and that today Serbia has a slight trade deficit with foreign countries, but that its goal is to achieve a trade surplus of between $200 million and $300 million in the years to come.
In the Serbian government building, the students presented prototypes and products of wood that they themselves designed and made, such as chairs, benches, sofas and club tables, which they will present at this year's prestigious design fair that will be held in Milan at the end of the year.
The Serbian Deputy Prime Minister wished these young people success at the Milan fair and added that their presentation at the fair will be sponsored by Forma Ideale from Kragujevac, which is a company that records 30% growth annually.
Forma Ideale exports half of its production, and in this year alone exports will grow by 100%. The plan is for the company to earn €30 million from furniture exports.
Djelic said that Sumadija, especially Kragujevac, is becoming a centre for the timber industry, and announced that a big investment by Austrian company Cronospan is expected in Lapovo. Cronospan is the leader in the production of boards for furniture.
Executive Director of Forma Ideale Aleksandar Smiljanic voiced satisfaction that the company can assist young talent and added that it also gives scholarships to Serbian students.
