In an interview for today’s edition of the daily Vecernje Novosti, excerpts of which will be published tomorrow, Kostunica said that there are already too many weapons in the province and that instead of arming Albanians, the US should revert to respecting international law and the UN Charter.
Kosovo does not need more weapons, but new talks because it is quite certain that the preservation of peace and stability in the region can be guaranteed only if the rule of international law is re-established in the Balkans and not by sending weapons to the region.
He said that the decision to send American weapons only proves that there is a dangerous plan to create the first NATO state in the world.
That is why the US President’s decision has caused such concern and will only further deepen the problems which arose with the violation of Resolution 1244 and Washington’s consent to the illegal declaration of unilateral independence in Pristina, said Kostunica.
He said that the US authorities must be aware that Serbs are embittered and still remember the policy of force which the US conducted against Serbia.
Serbia is a free and proud country and the Serbs are a free and proud nation. As long as it is so, and it must be like that forever, Kosovo is Serbia. It is our duty to fight, today or tomorrow, to attain the right and justice belonging to Serbia, emphasised the Prime Minister.
Each Serb knows that the fight for Kosovo has so far provided us with a legitimate right to consider the province of Kosovo-Metohija as Serbia’s constituent and unalienable part. This right is now confirmed by the large number of states that have refused to recognise the self-proclaimed NATO state, underlined Kostunica.
