Jeremic told the FoNet news agency that he will have consultations with representatives of the countries that did not recognise Kosovo’s independence.
He said that the extenuating circumstance is that Russia, which is strongly in favour of a continuation of negotiations on Kosovo, is presiding over the UN Security Council this month.
If we are lucky, I believe that we will succeed by the end of the month with our intention that the Security Council holds another session on Kosovo, Jeremic said, but he also added that it will not be that easy because some powerful countries advocate positions that the complete opposite of Serbia's.
The minister reiterated that a compromise solution can be reached only through new negotiations, adding that this is Serbia’s clear standpoint, and expects serious support for it within the UN Security Council.
Jeremic stressed that during his stay in New York he will also talk with standing representatives of many African, Asian and South American countries, and familiarise them with Belgrade’s position regarding the issue of Kosovo-Metohija.
He also emphasised that Serbia will do all it can to keep the discussion on Kosovo in the limelight, and prevent the fact that international law was violated from becoming forgotten.
We have a clear plan before us and we are fulfilling it. The next stop in the UN is to schedule a new Security Council session, which I will whole-heartedly advocate during my stay in New York on March 6–7, said Jeremic.
