Dinkic noted that 27,000 foreign guests are currently in Serbia and added that the government intends to invest considerable funds in tourism development.
He announced that a first international tender to provide facilities on Stara Planina will be called in March and that according to the plan, private investors should invest €220 million while the state should invest €50 million in infrastructure over the next three years.
The Minister said that the government will invest funds in the tourism programme “Roads of Roman Emperors” and recalled that 17 Roman emperors were born on the territory of Serbia.
Dinkic said that through a mixture of tradition and modernity we must change Serbia’s image, noting that the chance for that will be in May when Belgrade will host the World Media Congress and the Eurovision Song Contest.
He said that 10,000 hotel beds have already been booked while the tickets for the Eurovision Song Contest were sold out in just two days.
We must show that we are hospitable and cheerful hosts and that we can offer nature’s wonders, spas, mountains and villages, the Minister said.
The fair will run until March 2. Opening hours are from 10 am to 6 pm.
