Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic met today with Cypriot Ambassador to Belgrade Homer Mavrommatis and thanked Cyprus for its principled refusal to recognise the illegal decision by interim institutions in Kosovo-Metohija to declare independence, as well as for its support to Serbia’s EU integration process.

Mavrommatis familiarised Djelic with the official statement in which the Cypriot government voices regret for the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo, an act that violates Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Cyprus believes that this secessionist act is contrary to international law as well as contrary to the UN Charter, Helsinki Final Act and UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which affirm the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia by UN members.
Djelic and Mavrommatis pointed out the importance of dialogue on visa abolishment for Serbian citizens travelling to the EU.
Mavrommatis invited Djelic to visit Cyprus in order to further develop bilateral cooperation between the two friendly states in the areas of economy, culture and European integration.
