Ladjevic visited several Albanian and Goranci families in Zrenjanin, whose shops were recently damaged in violence which broke out following the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo-Metohija, and said that the police in Zrenjanin and other places have already taken adequate measures so that these incidents are not repeated.
He said that the damage was caused by irresponsible individuals or groups of minors, and stressed that the role of parents and schools is very important in preventing such events.
Besides the active measures taken by the Serbian government, additional work will have to be done on building trust since violence cannot help the cause of Kosovo-Metohija in any way, rather it undermines the efforts of the authorities to help the Serbs in the province, said Ladjevic.
It is very important that all violence is controlled by the law, particularly in multiethnic communities such as Vojvodina, said Ladjevic and added that the state, in cooperation with local authorities, will make all efforts to provide compensation to citizens for damage to property, and those responsible will be brought to justice.
Ladjevic said that when ethnically motivated incidents are in question, preventive action becomes necessary, and it is the Serbian government clear policy that such events must be controlled and prevented.
