A ten-kilometre E-70 motorway section, running from the Zmaj gas station to Belgrade airport, got new lights late yesterday. The lighting, whose installation was financed by the Belgrade City Assembly, the Serbian Road Directorate and Belgrade Airport, will help improve traffic safety and comfort.
The new lighting, which includes 228 lampposts and 403 lamps, will also help reduce electricity consumption and maintenance cost.
The Belgrade City Assembly secured 50 percent of the required 62.1 million dinars for the lighting project. The Serbian Road Directorate provided 40 percent of the funding, while Belgrade Airport contributed 10 percent to the project.
Belgrade Airport General Manager Nebojsa Nedeljkovic said that the new lighting on the access route to the airport is the first phase of an airport lighting plan.
Belgrade airport will also benefit from a new terminal building and a cargo building by March 2005, Nedeljkovic said, adding that new asphalt will be laid on the access route by the end of the year.
