Jeremic warns of possible consequences of Kosovo independence

Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic conveyed to ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Belgrade the official position of the Serbian government that the unilateral illegal proclamation of independence of Kosovo-Metohija is unacceptable.

Jeremic invited foreign officials to urgent consultations this afternoon and warned them of the possible consequences that this illegal act can cause in terms of security. He also stressed that the unilateral proclamation of independence in Kosovo is a violation of international law.
The Foreign Minister urged the foreign diplomats and the governments of their countries not to recognise the decision of Kosovo’s interim institutions to unilaterally proclaim independence.
He also expressed expectation that international organisations will behave in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244, Helsinki Final Act as well as other international documents guaranteeing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of sovereign states.
