Serbia has asked for a special session to be held due to an expected unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo-Metohija, which is a serious threat to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, an OSCE member country, as well as a violation of the fundamental document of the OSCE, the Helsinki Final Act.
The session is scheduled to take place at 3 pm, and following the debate in the OSCE Permanent Council, Jeremic will hold a press conference.
In the case that a unilateral declaration of independence is made by Kosovo-Metohija, the OSCE will have difficulties in extending the mandate of its mission in the province.
On the basis of the decision by the OSCE Permanent Council made in December last year, the mandate of the mission in Kosovo-Metohija is extended every month for the period of one month, unless an objection is made by a country.
Short term extension of the mandate was requested by Serbia and Russia, who consider that a change in the status of the province also changes the mandate of the mission, which is based on UN SC Resolution 1244.
