He told journalists that he received assurances that NATO will not engage in the status issues, but will instead concentrate on preserving peace and safety in Kosovo, acting in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
He conveyed to EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Javier Solana that Serbia cannot accept the sending of an EU mission to Kosovo without a UN Security Council resolution as it would be legal violence.
Sutanovac repeated that Serbia favours the continuation of negotiations on Kosovo-Metohija.
Solana expressed an understanding and readiness for the continuation of negotiations, Sutanovac said and also told Solana that it will be difficult to explain to Serbian citizens why Serbia wants to join the EU when the Union wants to send its mission to Kosovo without a UN Security Council resolution.
Sutanovac also spoke with Dutch Minister of Defence Eimert van Middelkoop about Serbia’s signing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU and told the Dutch Minister that no one in Belgrade can give a precise date the cooperation with the Hague tribunal will be completed.
Sutanovac said that the Munich conference is one of the most important security meetings in the world and recalled that Serbian President Boris Tadic and Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic participated in the talks also.
The main topics of the conference that gathered over 350 heads of state and prime ministers, defence and foreign ministers from all over the world included Kosovo-Metohija, Afghanistan, relations between Russia and the West, Turkey’s growing role as a crucial state in the Middle East and current security issues in the world.
