Samardzic-Markovic said at the meeting, which was organised to discuss the EUPEA board meeting to be held in Belgrade from February 8 to 10 that these goals are integral to the strategy for the development of sports being prepared by the ministry.
She said that this year’s EUPEA board meeting, at which a proposal to include the Serbian Physical Education Association into EUPEA will be presented, is being held in Belgrade on the initiative of the Serbian Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Belgrade and Slovenian faculties of physical education.
The Minister said that the inclusion of the Serbian Physical Education Association into the EUPEA is of great importance, as well as the fact that the EUPEA board will meet in Belgrade.
EUPEA President Rose-Marie Repond recalled that the organisation has 40 member countries and voiced hope that Serbia will become its 41st member at this evening’s board meeting.
She stressed that the aim of the EUPEA is to promote responsibility among people towards their own health and the environment.
According to Repond, the values of sports and culture cannot be promoted without properly trained physical education teachers.
Repond said that the strategy for the development of sport being prepared by the Ministry of Youth and Sports has this as one of its goals, and stressed that the EUPEA welcomes Serbia.
The importance of improving school and university sports will also be discussed at the EUPEA board meeting, as well as basic aims of the EUPEA and the Serbian strategy for the development of sport which is being drafted.
There will be a special emphasis on improving the position of physical education teachers and linking Serbian school and university sporting institutions with international institutions.
