Samardzic said that the Serbian government has received some relevant information stating that Kosovo Prime Minister Hasim Taci will illegally and unilaterally proclaim Kosovo’s independence on February 17.
Samardzic said that the EU was trying at any cost to sign any form of agreement with Serbia before February 17, as it would actually be the signature for Kosovo’s independence.
The Minister pointed out that Serbia’s signature would justify the seizure of 15% of its territory and be a violent contravention of the UN Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
He said that by signing any agreement with the EU at this moment, Serbia would be giving its consent to and legitimising the creation of a phoney state on its territory.
In particular Samardzic emphasised that Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica will not give such a signature and that the EU cannot expect Serbia to sign off on Kosovo’s independence just before the proclamation of unilateral independence in the province announced for February 17, according to a statement.
