Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic said today that Interior Minister Dragan Jocic’s condition is gradually improving. He is currently being treated in the intensive care unit at the Institute of Orthopedic Surgery Banjica.
Milosavljevic,
who is heading an expert team in charge of the medical treatment of Minister Jocic, said for the news agency Tanjug that the expert team will be joined by Kiril Gorshkov of the Burdenko Neurosurgery Institute at the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
The Health Minister recalled that
Jocic was seriously injured in a road traffic accident following which he and driver Mirko Damjanovic were hospitalised. He said that soon after the accident it was possible to safely transport them to Belgrade for diagnosis and treatment, and Damjanovic underwent urgent surgery.
Following a prompt diagnosis of Jocic, it was jointly decided by doctors at Belgrade’s Emergency Centre and the Banjica institute that the patient should be transferred to the institute, where surgery was carried out at the Spinal Centre. The operation was successfully performed by Dr Zdeslav Jovanovic, said Milosavljevic.
He concluded by appealing to the press to refrain from unnecessary comments and to respect medical and journalistic ethics.
