Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today in talks with Romanian President Traian Basescu that the Serbian government is making efforts to sign the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU and to continue the process of European integration. He stressed that Serbia’s EU integration must proceed under the same conditions which are applied to all other European countries.

Kostunica particularly emphasised that the decision to send an EU mission to Kosovo-Metohija will mean that the EU has chosen to annul the SAA, since this move would grossly violate the UN Charter, Security Council Resolution 1244, Serbian Constitution and the SAA.
The Serbian Prime Minister said that the Serbian parliament, through the Resolution it adopted, has declared that sending an EU mission to Kosovo-Metohija with the aim of implementing Ahtisaari’s rejected plan would jeopardise Serbia’s territorial integrity and constitutional order.
Romanian President Basescu said that Romania strongly advocates upholding international law.
Basescu stressed that Romania will not recognise a unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo-Metohija. He added that a solution for the crisis must be sought within the Security Council.
It was jointly stated that relations between Romania and Serbia are excellent.
