Serbia firm on path to Europe

Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic today talked with foreign ministers of Spain, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Romania, Bulgaria and Luxembourg. The meetings took place in the margins of the First Forum of the Alliance of Civilisations.

Jeremic, who is currently in Spain, stressed in a statement for the news agency Fonet that there is a great majority of those, who think that Serbia is ready to sign the Stablisation and Association Agreement (SAA).
He said that he conveyed a strong message to his counterparts that Serbia is determined to have a European future and it is of great importance to make a first step in that direction.
According to Jeremic, that first step is signing the SAA as soon as possible, in January or February, at the first or second EU summit.
The Minister said that today he also talked with the few who do not agree and there were heated debates, but he expressed conviction that there is absolutely no dilemma whatsoever that the path towards EU membership is open to Serbia.
Jeremic said that he also met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
Later, the Minister will travel to New York, where he will attend tomorrow’s Security Council session on Kosovo-Metohija.
