In a statement to the news agency Tanjug, Jeremic said that it is good that the session will take place later because it gives Serbia more time to present its report, to inform Security Council members on details and lobby more support.
We have a comprehensive response, since we consider that the report by the UN Secretary General and the UNMIK Chief is full of inaccuracies, and we have given details regarding every point which does not accurately reflect reality, said Jeremic.
The Serbian Foreign Minister, who travelled to New York significantly earlier than the scheduled Security Council session in order to prepare the ground for the address by Serbian President Boris Tadic, stressed that the focus of Serbia’s new diplomatic initiative will be directed towards the five new non-permanent members of the Security Council.
The situation regarding permanent members is more or less well known, but the 10 non-permanent, particularly the five new members will be the focus of our attention. I will inform them on our stand and present to them our response to the report by UNMIK Chief Joachim Ruecker, said Jeremic, who will meet with ambassadors of Security Council members, and officials of the UN Secretary General’s office.
Jeremic also welcomed yesterday’s statement by the Secretary General’s spokesperson Michele Montas, who said that a compromise reached through negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina would be the best solution to the crisis in the southern Serbian province, and any solution outside the UN would be a blow to international order.
This statement has encouraged us. It is becoming clear to a growing number of members that this problem is very complicated and carries consequences, and it is dangerous to force a solution. We will not sit idle, but continue intensive diplomatic efforts, before and after the Security Council, since we do not expect it to be the last one, said Jeremic.
