"We are facing a centuries old challenge, that great powers want to take our territory away from us. Today Serbia has allies, first of all Russia, which defended in the United Nations, in line with the UN Charter, Serbia's right that the principle of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity be applied to it as well, just as to all other countries in the world. That is why Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija must know that a puppet state that would be unilaterally declared will never exist for Serbia, and Serbs in the province will always be equal citizens of Serbia.
The construction of very important motorway Horgos-Pozega will start next year, and the Serbian government is working on reaching a strategic agreement with Russia on long-term cooperation in the energy sector, which will provide for strong development of the Serbian economy and stable supply with energy sources in decades to come. Our every citizen must live better and must be able to provide for a normal and decent life for their families.
In 2008, we will continue to fight for Kosovo-Metohija as well as continue to strengthen the Serbian economy and to fight crime and corruption. Serbian state institutions must show the highest level of responsibility and full state unity, as only in that way can we move forward.
I wish all citizens of Serbia a peaceful, prosperous and happy New Year 2008,” the Prime Minister said in his address.
