Serbian Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Slobodan Samardzic said today that the position of EU High Representatives for Foreign Policy and Security Javier Solana that sending the EU mission to Kosovo is not violation of international law means only that the EU high representative does not respect international law.

Samardzic told news agency Tanjug that the EU Council of Minister’s possible formal decision on January 28, 2008 to send its mission to Kosovo would be most severe violation of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and would also annul the initialled Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA).
He said that the initialled agreement between Serbia and the EU precisely commits both sides to respect the UN Charter, UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Helsinki Final Act.
All these basic documents absolutely guarantee sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia in its current internationally recognised borders. International law must be respected, which is why the EU must not decide on January 28 to illegally send its mission to Kosovo, said Samardzic.
