Serbian Parliament Speaker Predrag Markovic has called local elections in the Republic of Serbia for September 19, when voters will cast their ballots for new local authorities, including city mayors. He also announced that pre-election activities begin as of today.
Markovic told a press conference yesterday that elections for deputies in local assemblies will not take place in those municipalities where elections have already taken place under the 2002 Law on Local Elections. The same will be applied for the president of Presevo municipality, who has already been elected under this law.
According to the Statute of the City of Belgrade, presidents of Belgrade municipalities will be elected by deputies, not by citizens.
