Kostunica told journalists that state unity has been reaffirmed and announced further work on adoption of action plans and measures in case of unilateral recognition of Kosovo independence.
He pointed out that the resolution concerns territorial integrity, sovereignty and constitutional order of Serbia, which is also contained in previous resolutions, and also added that this document was adopted in a very particular moment.
The resolution was brought after two cycles of negotiations which Serbia addressed very constructively and with the idea to reach a solution through a compromise, in line with international law.
According to Kostunica, the failure of negotiations is not Serbia’s fault, while the responsibility lies on those who prevented the Albanian side to seek a compromise and negotiations.
The resolution was brought in the situation in which negotiations were blocked and we considered that it is necessary that the government, negotiating team and the President of the Republic once again present parliament members guidelines for further actions, said Kostunica.
He stressed that further work, primarily of the government, on shaping the action plan and measures in case of unilateral recognition of Serbian southern province.
The resolution is particularly important also because it defines relations with NATO. Serbia has declared the neutral status bearing in mind the role of NATO in 1999 illegal bombardment of Serbia as well as its role in rejected Ahtisaari’s plan, where it appears as ultimate supervisory authority in a creation called independent Kosovo, Kostunica noted.
He stressed that both messages are important and showing that all state organs are doing everything to preserve Kosovo within Serbia and that after the interruption of negotiations the negative outcome is being considered.
Kostunica repeated that Serbia will annul any act that has negative outcome.
If unilateral recognition happens, it is more than clear that many countries will oppose such illegal decision and will not recognise Kosovo independence, primarily the Russian Federation, China and many countries that presented their position in the Security Council, the Prime Minister concluded.
