Speaking to the press in the House of Parliament, Jeremic said that that refers above all to protection of the country’s territorial integrity and its European future. This is a moment when it is most important to preserve national unity and a strong and clear policy on chief issues, which are at present safeguarding territorial entirety and continuation of European integration.
He stressed that
Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica in his address today to MPs spoke about the US policy on Kosovo-Metohija and recalled that it is no secret that the US administration and Serbian government have very different and opposed viewpoints on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija.
Speaking on the further course of Serbian policy, the Minister said that it remains unaltered and is defined in
Kostunica’s keynote address in parliament at the formation of the Serbian government.
According to Jeremic, there are three central points of our foreign policy and three capitals with which we must cooperate regardless whether we agree on some points or not. These are Washington, Brussels and Moscow, and Serbia must build the best possible relations with them.
Speaking about future status of Kosovo, Jeremic underlined that Serbia harshly opposes and will continue to oppose the US policy on the province as long as it is same as now.
Asked by reporters whether the southern Serbian province is mentioned in the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU (SAA), Jeremic said that it is mentioned in the preamble which specifies that Kosovo-Metohija is under international UN administration, defined by Resolution 1244 and that Kosovo's future status will be decided in line with that Resolution.
That is one of the elements showing that SAA is in function of preservation of Serbia's territorial integrity, the Foreign Minister said and voiced hope that the resolution on protection of sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutional order of Serbia will be adopted with consensus.
