Jeremic yesterday opened the first conference of Serbian ambassadors and noted that dialogue on the future status of Kosovo should be continued by creating a climate for true negotiations.
I suggest creating a climate, for the first time since the process of negotiations started, in which a historic compromised solution between Serbs and Albanians could be created. This means putting on the table a symmetric corpus of initiatives for both sides that would result in a negotiated and mutually acceptable agreement, the Minister explained.
Negotiations so far have not yielded fruit due to constant public messages from abroad practically announcing that province’s independence will be imposed should no compromise is reached by December 10.
The imposed independence would be imposed breaking up of Serbia, and we all know about dozens of examples similar to Kosovo across the world waiting for secession to be legalised.
He warned that the values of democracy that Serbian citizens accepted in the 2000 elections would be irreversibly delegitimised in case of an imposed independence of Kosovo.
Stability in the whole region could not be strengthened, democracy would be undermined, legitimacy of borders would be brought into question, while there would be no prosperity, Jeremic explained.
Jeremic also noted that Serbian foreign politics must be based not only on development of relations with Brussels, but with Washington and Moscow as well.
He reiterated that Serbia's strategic priority is to speed up its EU accession and to further improve relations with Brussels, Moscow and Washington, which are the three pillars of Serbian foreign policy.
According to him, Serbia will continue to dedicate special attention to relations with China and India that are our traditional partners, but also with other Asian countries like Japan, Indonesia and South Korea.
The Minister said that Serbia will continue to strengthen relations created during SFRY and Unaligned Movement and pointed out that it is also necessary to promote regional cooperation and reach true reconciliation.
The Minister reiterated that the ending of cooperation with the Hague tribunal is Serbia's obligation, but also its moral duty towards its neighbors and the world.
He said that ambassadors’ conference will become annual conference of Serbian diplomatic representatives.
Today, Serbian ambassadors will meet with government ministers and President Boris Tadic.
