The Serbian Ministry of Interior has said that a shot was fired yesterday at three Serb children, aged 6, 13 and 15, in the village of Ajnovce in the municipality of Kosovska Kamenica.
The shot was fired from the woods some 300 metres away from an orchard where the children were picking plums and it hit the ground some 20 centimetres away from one of the boys, reads the statement.
The incident was reported to the police. Kosovo Police Service (KPS) officers appeared at the site and established that a cart tyre had burst, according to a statement.
After that, a female member of the KPS arrived at the scene, accompanied by two UNMIK police officers, and she demanded that the oldest of the Serb children sign a document saying that a tyre had burst. The frightened boy signed the paper, but the kids still claim that a shot had been fired near them.
The statement goes on to say that an investigation has established that the tyre burst after it was hit by a small-calibre bullet.
