Samardzic said after opening a representative office of the Ministry in Kosovska Mitrovica that in case of unilateral proclamation of Kosovo's independence, Serbia will react with legal and diplomatic means exclusively.
Serbia would not recognise unilateral independence of Kosovo and would declare it illegal and illegitimate act, as well as possible decisions of some states that would follow, the Minister said.
He underlined that Serbia would continue to manage its own affairs in Kosovo as it started doing in 2000, which means that in case of unilateral declaration of independence, a complete institutional parallelism would be created in the province.
Having pointed out that the representative office of the Ministry opened today will be the centre of Serbian institutions in the province, Samardzic told Serbs living in the Metohija village of Osojane that regardless of the outcome of negotiations on the future status of the province, Kosovo-Metohija will forever remain part of Serbia.
Samardzic said that Serbia will always be present in Kosovo-Metohija in all places inhabited by Serbs and wherever Serbian churches and monasteries are located.
Residents of Osojane and surrounding Serb habitations acquainted Samardzic with elementary problems they face daily, such as water and electricity shortages and lack of medical personnel.
Samardzic promised that the state will resolve those problems one by one, but it cannot be expected that they disappear overnight.
