Jeremic told Tanjug news agency that Serbia is conducting a serious diplomatic battle over the format of the SC session that will be held on December 19 and deal with the report of the troika of envoys, yesterday submitted to the UN Secretary-General.
He said that there is an initiative that representatives of Kosovo Albanians should also speak at the session, on the basis of Article 39 of the SC rules of procedure. He underlined that he asked his collocutors in New York not to allow this precedent which would have a biased and spectacular character.
According to him, the report submitted to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is not a surprise, but Belgrade authorities object to the statement that both sides were equally constructive during the 120 days of negotiations.
The Minister said that it would be a grave mistake that the SC does not allow the continuation of dialogue because Serbia is committed to continuation of the status talks under SC auspices and added that the real diplomatic battle is yet to take place.
At the same time, he recalled that Serbia has the support of a considerable number of the UN SC member states for the continuation of peaceful dialogue.
Serbia is firmly committed to contribute to the solution and to assist with its constructive approach to reach a compromise solution through peaceful status talks, said Jeremic, who met with ambassadors of UN SC member states in New York in the previous two days.
The Serbian Foreign Minister voiced hope that the number of countries supporting Serbia will grow and that the opinion that talks should be continued will prevail in the UN SC by December 19.
