First factory for e-waste management opened in Belgrade

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic and Minister of Environmental Protection Sasa Dragin put into operation today in Visnjicka Banja in Belgrade the first factory for recycling e-waste in the Balkans, equipped with a new technology plant.
Djelic said that between 10% and 12% of waste is being recycled in Serbia, while that percentage in EU countries is much greater and is about 60%.
When it comes to the recycling of non-usable electrical devices, the situation in Serbia is very poor since only 2%-3% of such waste is being recycled, the Prime Minister said and underlined that the waste is not trash, but a resource that can be very profitable.
Dragin announced that two laws regulating waste management will be presented to deputies in parliament by the end of the year.
He explained that recycling industry in the whole world has an annual turnover of nearly $160 billion.
According to Dragin, by building facilities like this Serbia is becoming one of the countries that conscientiously manage their destiny.
He added that three such plants could service the needs of the whole of Serbia for waste recycling.
