The statement reads that a part of the campaign includes putting up billboards featuring quotes by great Western states people and politicians and adds that the democratic Serbia of today strives to preserve the values which the West adopted a long time ago as proven values of free societies. It also adds that the campaign is an expression of these efforts.
With the campaign "Kosovo is Serbia" the Ministry is addressing the domestic and international public because the quotes mentioned in the campaign are those of Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Winston Churchill, Charles de Gaul, John F. Kennedy and Willy Brandt, statesmen who stood out by their high ethical standards, political pragmatism and visions.
The chosen quotations express the awareness of the need to protect and defend national interests of democratic societies in crucial historic moments, as well as to preserve values such as perseverance, morality, rightfulness, seriousness and responsibility.
Stances of these statesmen exerted key influence on the formation of contemporary political culture and values on which modern societies, such as the USA, Great Britain, France and Germany are based.
The campaign also points to the similarity with challenges Serbia is facing today and recalls the political values and democratic standards the Western civilization is based on.
The democratic government in Serbia is calling upon the same tradition while patiently seeking a compromise solution to the future status of Kosovo-Metohija to the benefit of Serbs, Albanians and other peoples.
The statement recalls that Belgrade is sometimes unjustly criticised that in the Kosovo status resolution process it is ready to sacrifice the European future of the country for the sake of myths and history and adds that the campaign points to stances of statesmen who took part in building permanent values of the Western civilization and are remembered in history as defenders of national interests.
By advocating the preservation of its territorial unity, Serbia now relies on the same values on which the democratic societies of France, the USA, Great Britain and Germany relied in similar situations.
Serbia also has its sources of culture and spirituality and Kosovo-Metohija has been and will remain one of the most important such sources.
By striving to preserve Kosovo-Metohija with the widest possible autonomy for Kosovo Albanians, Serbia is now defending its own national and democratic values and the self-respect of its people, reads the statement.
