The donation is aimed at improving the educational environment for children with special needs in Serbia and through the funds, which the school began using in September, the school yard and the fence were reconstructed, classrooms furnished and equipment for workshops procured.
Nagai recalled that from 1999 onwards, Japan has so far donated €5.3 million in non-refundable aid to the people of Serbia for 96 implemented projects.
He also said that the total amount of economic assistance to Serbia for the stated period stands at around €200 million and voiced belief that the donation to the Bosko Buha school will help improve students’ activities.
Loncar stressed that the future of Serbia is education and investment in children, for which it takes more than just to reform the curriculum, as it is also necessary to invest in schools.
The Minister said that the economy in Serbia is still not at the satisfactory level for the country to make more significant investments in schools and added that the budget does not allow the same percent of GDP to be set aside for education as in more developed countries.
He stressed the importance of international donations to the education sector and pointed out that when it comes to international assistance aimed at improving the school system in Serbia, Japan is among the top donor countries.
