If the United States states that it respects Resolution 1244 and its fundamental provisions guaranteeing sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia and providing substantial autonomy for the Albanian ethnic minority in the province, a compromised solution satisfying both interests of Serbia and Kosovo Albanians would quite certainly be found, Kostunica told Tanjug news agency.
Only in that case there will be no puppet creations and satisfaction of military and security interests of the United States, Kostunica stressed and noted that at this moment it is obvious that every responsibility lies upon America and its choice between law and stability on the one side, and lawlessness and long-term instability on the other.
The policy of power, legal violence and lawlessness cannot be used to build peace and stability in the Balkans, the Prime Minister said and pointed out that Serbia on its part will do everything to find a compromised solution under the umbrella of the UN Security Council and in harmony with the UN Charter and the Constitution of Serbia while preserving stability and peace in the region.
This certainly means that establishing an EU-administered mission instead of UNMIK, which is contrary to Resolution 1244, is not an option, Kostunica stressed.
